Fitness Celebrity Interview
Beth Horn

I guess we will start right away with one of your biggest accomplishments, your Weider Contract. First congratulations, and how did that come about?
Beth:
I have been working with Weider for the past 4 years. Over the years, I have made good contacts and good relationships. I have been friendly and easy to work
with, so you develop good relationships. I knew if I worked hard, it would all pay off and it finally has!
It has been over a year now since you turned pro, has anything changed or were there any let downs?
Beth:
Turning Pro was the highlight of my career and an unbelievable feeling! Since then, 2001 was a very rough year for me personally. I competed at the Arnold Classic
for my Pro debut in 2001. Under extreme stress, I was just happy to make it on stage in one piece and I ended up placing last, which was a huge disappointment! I
was disappointed because I had an awesome routine (should have been top 5) and I was completely overlooked. The routines are supposed to count for 50% of the
score, but it sure did not seem like that happened. I also found out later that all my mandatory moves were out of order, which I did not know about. So after that
experience, I knew I would have to climb the ladder back up to the top again!! Since then I received my contract and have really been concentrating on my career and
my routines. I am definitely living all my dreams come true!!! :)
You have recently gotten your contest placings higher. What, if anything have you done differently, which has caused you to consistently be in the top 10?
Beth:
I have been placing higher each time because I have been staying very lean and building on my physique for each show. Staying lean
is key and improving my routines
and physique each time around!
It seems to be getting more competitive year after year on the women's pro fitness circuit. What are you going to do to try to compete with the top girls this
year?
Beth:
Well, my routine for the Arnold Classic 2003 (hopefully I will be invited), will be incredible. I am doing something no one has ever done before. I like to do tricks
that are very difficult and that no one else can do, for example, the "Horn Handstand'!
I also plan on just getting leaner and tighter every time.
What advice would you give a girl who told you she wanted to turn pro?
Beth:
Be persistent! Stay disciplined, dedicated and keep that desire and fire alive!
Is there anyone who you just flat-out don't like in this business
(other fitness girls, judges, etc.)?
Beth:
I get along with most people in the business, but I also do not get wrapped up in it like many people do. I make sure I have my own private life that balances my
fitness. Several people have tried to be negative towards me in the public eye, but I do not let it bother me, because I know it all comes from jealousy.
How prevalent do you think performance-enhancing drugs are becoming with the fitness girls?
Beth:
I feel there are many performance-enhancing 'supplements' out there, being used by all athletes, including fitness women. For myself, I choose to be
completely natural and I am very proud of that! Many people truly appreciate that I am natural.
I am very proud to be considered one of the best fitness athletes in the world. It is an incredible feeling to accomplish my goals
being natural and to have an
awesome contract, making money doing what I love!!
Most of the fitness girls tell me there is no money to be made from fitness. Do you have any plans to try to make fitness a career choice for you? Do you
plan on any model or any other fitness related endeavors?
Beth:
I have many big plans ahead, but for now, my Weider contract is awesome.
I know I am very lucky, but I have worked really hard for this. My attitude has been so
positive and that helped me get to the top!
Do you have any "secret" diet or training advice you would like to share with our readers?
Beth:
There really are no secrets! Being consistent is key with training and diet.
You also have to constantly change up your diet and
workouts to shock your body.
Is there anything else you'd like to comment on, promote or relay to our readers?
Beth:
I truly believe you can do anything you put your mind to. No matter what your dreams are, set your goals and achieve them little by little.
As far as diet, many people want to lose weight, especially with the holidays near. Be consistent with your diet and workouts. Eat very clean and healthy everyday and
when the holidays come, take a day off and enjoy! The problem is, many people cannot get back on it after a big cheat day and continue to eat. Have discipline when
there are left overs and desserts around. Always keep a goal that is important to you in the back of your mind to keep your willpower strong.
